The Name of the Third (Other) Manning Brother is Cooper – Son to Archie & Brother to Peyton and Eli

The Manning family is one of the most respected and accomplished families in football history. Father Archie along with his sons Eli and Peyton were each star quarterbacks in high school, college, and eventually the NFL. The rarely discussed story is that in addition to mother Olivia Manning, there’s another family member who can’t put the famed National Football League (NFL) quarterback’s accomplishment on their resume. and that person is Cooper’s third son, brother of both Eli and Peyton.

Cooper Manning will likely spend the rest of his life being referred to either behind his back or in front of his face as the third Manning brother. Unlike his accomplished brothers and father, he doesn’t have multi-million dollar contracts that earn him as much as hundreds of thousands of dollars a week. He also lacks the fame and admiration that comes with excellence in a coveted position (quarterback) at the highest level.

Archie Manning, the head of the family, first became a household name when he played quarterback for the University of Mississippi (commonly known as Ole Miss) in 1969 and 1970. The Heisman Trophy contender (awarded Most Outstanding College Football Player each year) went on to achieve wealth and fame in the NFL where, as a professional quarterback, he was selected to two Pro Bowls and was named the NFC Offensive Player of the League. year in 1978.

Archie met his wife Olivia when the two were students at Ole Miss. Archie was in a fraternity (Sigma Nu) and Olivia was in a sorority (Delta Gamma). Archie was the star quarterback for the varsity football team and Olivia was the comeback queen of her senior year. The couple married and had three sons: Cooper (b. 1974), Peyton (b. 1976) and Eli (b. 1981). Both Peyton and Eli are well known due to their success in the NFL as each of the two sons has won a Super Bowl and both have even been named Super Bowl MVPs (in consecutive years – Peyton in 2007 and Eli in 2008).

Cooper Manning is the oft-forgotten son, but he’s very comfortable with that fact and enjoys the anonymity that comes with being the non-famous brother. Cooper at 6’4″ is a similar height to the other males in his immediate family as his father Archie is 6’3″, his brother Peyton is 6’5″ and his brother Eli is 6’4″. As a youth, Cooper was a standout football player in his own right who aspired to play at the highest level. The All-State wide receiver was a highly touted college prospect who intended to play for Ole Miss in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) before he was diagnosed with a spinal condition known as spinal stenosis end his football career.

Cooper enjoys his brothers’ success without jealousy like any good brother should. Cooper, who lives in his hometown of New Orleans, is a partner in an energy investment firm known as Howard Weil. Following his younger brother Eli’s February 2008 Super Bowl victory on the heels of Peyton’s 2007 Super Bowl victory, Cooper was asked by New York Magazine if it felt weird to be the only sibling to not having won a Super Bowl. His light-hearted response was, “Well, there’s a lot of pressure on me next year. I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”
