How to Mark Out a Football Field
How to mark out a football pitch: Then using a rope, start at your goal line, ensuring you have 100 yards clearance from any hedges/obstructions etc. This line should be measured as wide as possible in space. allowed, about 65-70m.
Use the 3, 4, 5 triangle technique to get a right angle at each corner of your goal line and draw a rope across the field following your right angle to 95-105m. Do this for both corners of your first goal line, which will give you two sidelines.
At the end of one of the sidelines, use another 3,4,5 triangle and follow a rope line to the end of the other sideline.
You should now have threaded a rectangle. To check the accuracy of your rectangle, measure the diagonal lengths – these should be equal. Once you are sure the string lines are correct, use them as a guide to mark the triangle.
Using a tape measure, find the center of each goal. Starting from the center, make a mark on the goal line for the six-yard and eighteen-yard boxes. Do this for each end. A very useful diagram to use as a guide for this can be found at http://www.pitchcare.com.
From the corners, measure the two sidelines, six and eighteen yards. Also measure the sidelines to find the middle of your field. Once all internal measurements have been strung, mark these lines making sure to mark inside the string line.
Once the six and eighteen yard boxes are marked, mark your center line. Finally, place a string in the center of the field and measure from the back of the line (36′) to the middle of the penalty spot at each end. From the middle of the painted spot, measure 30′ outside the penalty area to get your arc.
Follow the same principle to mark your center circle by again measuring 30 feet from the center point of your center line. The final step is to mark the quadrants at each corner – these should have a radius of 1m.
